We started our new singing year with wassailing aplenty in our three community choirs. Thanks to all the singers who came along and joined us the first wassail at Addiscombe Railway Park – a wonderful community collaboration, creativity and celebration. The Mayor of Croydon said she felt it was just a beginning, as the new trees in the community orchard begin to take root.
One of our choir members Moira O’Donnell with the tree she planted.
After regaling the trees with toast, blessings, welcoming speeches and songs, the young king and queen of the Wassail lead a wonderful vibrantly noisy procession to the oldest tree in the orchard where the wassail cup was passed around and a libation offered with poetry. Singing and cider completed our wonderful ceremony together.
We are looking forward to singing at more community happenings – do check the events page for details.
In the meantime wishing you good health and choral cheer for 2016- WASSAIL!!
