On the 16th we will learn backing vocals for a new tune that is very easy.  This one off singing throng will be a temporary pop up choir called Cronx Chorus! Should be interesting, with guest leader Michael Williams. If you are earning please contribute £5-10 towards the fares of refugees and asylum seekers which helps them to attend the event. [All takings go to Rainbows across Borders members for their travel and I will pay the rest!] Please text me urgently if interested on 07981 298 541. Thank you and hope to welcome some of you to this interesting project!

October- Celebrating Black History Month

2016-09-26 12.58.42.jpgOctober – Celebrating Black History Month

Mindful Moment…
I will never forget that the only reason that I’m standing here today is because somebody, somewhere stood up for me when it was risky. Stood up when it was hard. Stood up when it wasn’t popular. And because that somebody stood up, a few more stood up. And then a few thousand stood up. And then a few million stood up. And standing up, with courage and clear purpose, they somehow managed to change the world.
– Barack Obama

October marks the start of Black History Month – which is celebrated across Croydon with a programme of fantastic events including performances from the author of Rasta Mouse and local performer Lorna Liverpool – click here for the full programme
As part of the celebrations, we’re looking forward to singing songs of freedom, spirit and resistance from the Afro-Caribbean traditions with our choirs – Caterham Community Choir Croydon Community Choir & Croydon Carers Choir

We’d also like to thank everyone who joined us for Peaceful Singing in celebration of World Peace Day over September – we like to think that the good vibes ripple out into the world.
Here’s one of the songs we’ll be singing this month, Deep River which renowned composer Samuel Coleridge Taylor arranged for piano as part of his 24 Negro Melodies 1905 which has the note ‘In the author’s opinion this is the most beautiful and touching melody of the whole series’.
